Chapter Nineteen

Delaney

“What are you doing back?” Kyle frowned as he caught sight of me. I dropped my purse on the end table in the living room and sat down next to him. Mom gave me a curious look, too, but Luke didn’t even bother to make eye contact with me.

“Sean had somewhere he had to be suddenly so it was just easier for me to stay here instead of making him take me back to the house.” I nudged Kyle with my foot. “Can you take me home with you?”

Mom put down the hand-sewed project she had been working on. “Is everything okay?”

What a loaded question. I’d just sent my boyfriend, the man who had proclaimed his love for me twenty minutes prior, off to help another girl. One minute there was a promise of a night together and the next someone else had wedged herself in. I had seen the war waging on Sean’s face. It was hard for him not to help her and I really believed that was in his nature. I also liked to believe I wasn’t naïve, however. I really hoped that Kayla truly needed him and wasn’t just taking advantage.

“Yeah, Mamma. Everything is fine.”

Kyle drove me home not too long after that and I went right to my room. After I had changed into my pajamas, I burrowed under the blankets on my bed and turned Gossip Girl on through Netflix. After my second episode, my phone vibrated from the nightstand.
